Calgary Expo: Call for Volunteers

If you are attending Calgary Expo and are interested in volunteering to help at the Serenity screening Friday evening or at our charity booth (Thursday – Sunday), please send us a wave by March 15, 2015 with your contact information.

Help is always desperately needed. Shifts for new volunteers are 2-3 hours, based on volunteer preference, and new volunteers are always be paired with experienced booth staff.

For volunteers in Edmonton & Area, a general orientation session will be held Thurs, April 2nd at the Carrot (9351 118 Avenue NW) from 7 pm – 8-ish pm. Volunteers from outside of the Edmonton area will get a “crash course” at the booth one hour before their first shift.

Grand plans and call for volunteers

Thanks to the wonderful generosity of our sponsors and the Calgary Expo team, we will be hosting a charity screening of Serenity (2005) as part of the official Calgary Expo programming on Friday, April 17, 2015.

If all goes as planned, this will be the first of three planned screenings taking part throughout Alberta (Edmonton in Sept, Lethbridge in Nov) to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the Alberta Browncoats Society and the 10th anniversary of the Big Damn Movie!

As with our screening at Edmonton Expo in 2014, this screening will be an un-ticketed event; your Calgary Expo ticket (Friday or Weekend pass) is all you need to come join in on the fun.

However, this is a charity screening so donations will be greatly appreciated. Donors will receive a draw ticket making them eligible for door prizes. Remember last year when we gave away Nathan Fillion autographed items as door prizes? Keep that in mind. This year’s donations are equally epic!

Of course, an event like this (and our charity booth) can’t run by itself. If you are attending Calgary Expo and are interested in volunteering to help at the screening or at our charity booth, please send us a wave by March 31, 2015 with your contact information.

Feb 5 – Knitting Night Canceled

In case you missed our posts on Twitter and Facebook –

Due to the inclement weather (although, nothing really compares to the 167 cm & still falling snowmageddon happening in New Brunswick this month), we have canceled knitting night tonight. We will meet again on Feb 19 at the Carrot.

If any knitters require yarn before the 19th, please leave a request on our Facebook page and we’ll work out how to meet up and get the yarn to you.

Knitting
Ma Cobb’s knitting army starts back up in the new year. Beginning Thursday, February 5 2015, we’ll be meeting every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month from 6:30 – 9:00 pm at the Carrot (9351 118 Ave, Edmonton).

Everyone is welcome. Our group includes many new and novice knitters. No experience required. However, experienced knitters may find themselves subject to adoration and acclaim!

New year, new knitting night

In 2015, our knitting night will change from Wednesday to Thursday. We will continue to host our drop-in knitting sessions on the 2nd and 4th weeks of each month at the Carrot Community Coffee House (9351-118 Ave).

Everyone is welcome. Our group includes many new and novice knitters. No experience required. However, experienced knitters may find themselves subject to adoration and acclaim!

We provide yarn free to volunteer knitters upon request. Please contact us if you’re interested in learning more about joining our knitting army.
