Start Spreading the News

Does your workplace have a bulletin board where you can post messages? If so, we’ve got some great posters to share with you. Help us spread the word by putting up a CSTS poster in your office. We’ll have posters on hand to distribute at The Guild screening at Happy Harbor Comics on June 6th and at the Marian Call concert on June 18th.

Want to get a poster before the shindigs? Drop us an email and we’ll make arrangements to get the posters to you.

Have you seen our event posters when roaming around Edmonton? Leave a comment and let us know where you saw one.

AB Browncoats are participating in the YESS.org “Homeless for a Night” fundraiser

Youth Empowerment & Support Services

The Alberta Browncoats Society has decided to take their support of the Edmonton Youth Emergency Shelter Society (YESS) out of the comfort of the movie theatre and into TELUS field. Just a few short weeks before our Can’t Stop the Serenity fundraiser event, we’ll be participating in the Homeless for a Night event presented by the Canadian Western Bank.

Word on the cortex is that it’s going to be an experience of a lifetime.

As Browncoats, we’ve committed to “doing good in unexpected ways” and pledge our time, support, and lots of shiny cashy monies to organizations that focus on improving the lives of women and children world wide.

So, on June 1st, we’ve committed to stepping outside of our comfort zone and will “aim to misbehave” once again.

Long before that one night, our team banded together and set our fundraising goals high in order to challenge ourselves, but we would love to exceed this amount. Once we fulfill our fundraising goal, for one night, we will all venture outside of our comfort zones and become “homeless” at TELUS Field. That night we will hear some of the stories of the clients at YESS, we will gain more knowledge about homelessness and the youth that are in crisis in our community. Every dollar we raise goes towards YESS programs.

Help us shatter our fundraising goal by skipping one morning coffee this week & donating the cost to our team. $2 can make a difference! Make your pledge at http://www.gifttool.com/athon/OurTeamPage?ID=1312&AID=1880&TID=12122

Of course, donations over $10 come with a shiny Revenue Canada tax receipt.

And a huge thank you to everyone who has already supported our team. You help make the lives of teen’s shinier.

Pre-CSTS Shindigs – Marian Call Concert and “The Guild” Screenings

Details of upcoming Shindigs are listed in our Shindig forum. All shindigs will be hosted at Happy Harbor Comics (10729 – 104 Avenue, Edmonton).

The Guild – Thanks to the generosity of Felicia Day and the Geek and Sundry team, we have been approved to host screenings of “The Guild” in the weeks leading up to our CSTS event (June 23, 2012). Geek & Sundry is the new home of “The Guild” and other fab content such as “Flog” (Felicia’s video blog), “Tabletop” (Wil Wheaton’s tabletop gaming show) and “Sword & Laser” (a Scifi/Fantasy book club).

Screenings start at 7pm. Admission to these screenings are free. Donations to the Edmonton Food Bank would be appreciated.

  • Season 1 – Wednesday, May 9, 2012
  • Season 2 – Wednesday, May 16, 2012
  • Season 3 – Wednesday, May 23, 2012
  • Season 4 – Wednesday, May 30, 2012
  • Season 5 – Wednesday, June 6, 2012

Marian Call – In concert – In conjunction with Happy Harbor Comics (10729 – 104 Avenue, Edmonton) we will be hosting a Marian Call concert on Monday, June 18, 2012.

Alaskan singer-songwriter Marian Call is returning to Alberta. Her music has been described by fans as “funky acoustic joy jazz” — she plays eclectic, humorous and heartfelt songs that appeal to crowds of all ages and demographics. Her signature Underwood typewriter, rain stick, and kazoo can be heard in most of her local (and national) performances.

Marian is not being paid directly for her performance; we’re suggesting a donation of $10-$15 per person to show your appreciation of her talents.

YESS.org Homeless for a Night

The Edmonton Youth Emergency Shelter Society, one of the charities we fundraise for at our CSTS, is holding their annual Homeless For a Night fundraiser on June 1, 2012.
