Pre-CSTS Shindig – Marian Call in Concert

Marian Call – In concert – In conjunction with Happy Harbor Comics (10729 – 104 Avenue, Edmonton) we will be hosting a Marian Call concert on Monday, June 18, 2012 at 7:30 pm.

Alaskan singer-songwriter Marian Call is returning to Alberta. Her music has been described by fans as “funky acoustic joy jazz” — she plays eclectic, humorous and heartfelt songs that appeal to crowds of all ages and demographics. Her signature Underwood typewriter, rain stick, and kazoo can be heard in most of her local (and national) performances.

Marian is not being paid directly for her performance; we’re suggesting a donation of $10-$15 per person to show your appreciation of her talents.

Costume & Evil Laugh Contests

As always, we’ll be hosting a costume contest as part of our event. Anything in the Whedonverse goes! Don’t have a Firefly costume ready? Consider coming as a character from Buffy, Angel, Dollhouse, Dr. Horrible, Cabin in the Woods or the Avengers!  Or be creative and design your own Browncoat Avenger outfit to share with the crowds.

For the non-cosplaying attendees 2012 marks the return of the Evil Laugh contest. Practice makes perfect so feel free to randomly wander around your town laughing hysterically. Or maybe not. There’s always the privacy of your own home to hone your mwaaa-haa-haa

Screening 35mm Print!

Thanks to the wonderful folks at Metro Cinema Society, we will be screening Serenity in it’s original 35mm glory! Universal has stated this is the last 35mm print available in Canada so it may be your last opportunity to attend a 35mm screening of Serenity. Make it count.

Come for Serenity, Stay for Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope
The Metro Cinema Society will be screening Comic Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope following our CSTS event.  This documentary features Holly Conrad, a guest at the 2011 Pure Speculation Festival, and is sure to be a lot of fun! CSTS attendees will have the option to stay to watch the Comic Con documentary at a reduced ticket price of $6. These discount tickets can be purchased at the ticket window on the day of the event. You can purchase advance tickets to CSTS online and at Happy Harbor Comics ( 10729-104th Ave, Edmonton). Edmonton’s CSTS event raises funds for Equality Now, Kids Need to Read, and  Youth Empowerment and Support Services (YESS; formerly the Youth Emergency Shelter Society).

YESS.org Homeless for a Night

The Alberta Browncoats team had a wonderful time at the YESS.org Homeless for a Night fundraiser. This is one of YESS’ biggest annual fundraisers and we’re proud to have been able to join them. Our small team of 3 people raised $1480 for YESS this year. Next year we hope to have a larger team at the event. Thanks to everyone who donated and/or participated!
